The  personality is the unique pattern  of a person's thoughts, behavior and emotional patterns. every individual has a distinct personality. some people are talkative while some are shy, some are  outgoing and like social gathering but some avoid social gathering and wants to alone, some are confident  while some are  timid.

Why are personalities so different and what are the factors responsible for it? well There are 3 factors that affect personality :

  1. BIOLOGICAL FACTORS

  • Heredity is something that passes from generation to generation through genes. Skill and traits  pass from parents to children as it is.
  • Body build influences personality directly by determining what an individual can and cannot do, as well as what the individual’s reaction will be to all those whose body builds are superior or inferior.
  • Physical attractiveness refers to the fact humans have preference about the physical appearance of the other people specially with respect to facial features and body proportions.
  • Homeostasis is the  tendency of to maintain our body in optimal state. those who maintain body temperature , water balance and blood sugar are supposed to have a  balanced personality.
  • Person with Physical defects  usually faces rejection and might get neglected. obesity is also considered as a physical defect in modern era.

       2. PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS

  •  Intellectual determinants influence personality through various kinds of adjustments in life and indirectly through the judgments other persons make of the individual on the basis of the person’s intellectual achievements.
  •  Emotional determinants plays an important role in personality development. emotional factors like dominant emotions, emotional balance, emotional deprivation, excessive love and affection, emotional expressions, emotional catharsis and emotional stress directly and indirectly affect the development of personality.
  •  Self disclosure refers to the process of disclose our personal information to others. however it depends upon us that how much we want to share to someone else.  it is important to make strong interpersonal relationship.
  •  Aspiration and achievements: Aspiration means goals, desire for more than what people have in their present. Ego makes people to want to achieve more or have more than they possess now. Achievement makes people more confident and develop self concept.

        3. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

  • Social Acceptance : people often behave which is socially acceptable and seeks approval of others. This helps in self evaluation  but if a person too much valued social acceptance then he always try to seek their approval which is not good for self concept.
  • Social Deprivation: If a person did not experience enough social contact like love and affection , usually remain socially isolated.
  • Educational Factors: Education help to develop more influencing personality. School, Teachers and pears helps to develop social behavior. this bring to self esteem  and confidence.
  • Family Determinants: Parenting is the key factor in the development of  child's personality. children learn from their parents and develop traits similar to their parents.  Balanced Parenting with warmth and responsiveness helps to develop confidence, self dependent and assertive while Strict parenting promotes self doubt,  mistrust and dependent.

All the factors are equally responsible for the personality development.  hence we can say that,  Developments of Personality = Physical determinants × Psychological determinants × Environmental determinants
