Signs that Anxiety is becoming an issue


We all fell uncomfortable in certain situations. we all feel nervous before final exam, we all feel butterflies in stomach at certain point of time, sometimes its unbearable but somehow we all pass through it. So are these signs of anxiety, Am I anxious? Am I suffering from mental health issue?





Well Anxiety is the most common response in stressful situation like taking an exam, facing an interview, switching the job or having financial trouble. Its okay to feel them. studies shows that sometimes anxiety makes us more aware and help us to do better. but if you often feel anxious, it interfere your life, you start to avoid social situation or you fell restlessness, and you are not able to concentrate. they could be sign of anxiety.


In some cases, people start to consume alcohol or unprescribed drugs to cope up with anxiety, or filled with suicidal thoughts, these are at high risk and cry for help you must immediately contact to a Psychologist or psychiatrist.


 

 Common symptoms of anxiety

1. Excessive thinking:

 One of the major symptom of anxiety is excessive thinking. Excessive thinking can impact your life and you might be unable to concentrate. it is the hallmark of the Generalised anxiety disorder. you may also troubled due to overthinking which impact your concentration and disrupt your sleep.  


people under age of 65 are at high risk of Generalised anxiety disorder specially of those who are single and faces lot of troubles in life and have low  socioeconomic status.


2. Avoid social situation

In a study, it was found that 12.62% of the Indian graduate student have social phobia and 5.95% have social anxiety. people with social anxiety usually :

  • Feel anxious or fearful about upcoming social situations.
  • Worried that they may be judged or scrutinized by others.
  • Fearful of being embarrassed or humiliated in front of others.
  • Avoid certain social events because of these fear.


3. Panic attack: High level of anxiety can triggered Panic attack. It is the sudden episode of intense fear or anxiety and physical symptoms. A person having panic attack can feel trembling, heart pounding, excessive sweating and can feel that he/she is having a heart attack or will die today. Panic attacks are common and study shows that 1 out of 3 person might have panic attack once in the life.


Common symptoms of panic attack:
  • Trembling or muscle twitching
  • Nervousness, restlessness or being tensed
  • Excessive sweating
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Feeling of danger, panic, or dread
  • Weakness and lethargy

4. Trouble in falling or staying sleep:

Sleeplessness or sleep disturbance is majorly link with anxiety. it is hard to falling sleep or might woke up easily at night. studies show children who reported insomnia in early life are at high risk, however it is not clear that if sleeplessness triggered anxiety or anxiety triggered. 


5. Irrational fears: some people have irrational fear which also referred as phobia. some common phobia are:

  • Agoraphobia: Fear of open spaces or crowds
  • Claustrophobia: fear of confined or crowded spaces
  • Hemophobia: fear of blood
  • Animal phobia: fear of animal, insects
  • Autophobia: fear of being alone.



Some simple natural ways to reduce anxiety:


Exercise: Exercise release Endomorphine in brain which helps to relax the muscles and relieve tension in the body and improve concentration, motivation, memory, and mood.


Eating a healthy diet: A proper balanced diet rich in nutrients can help to reduce anxiety but you can include pumpkin seeds, green tea, yogurt, eggs, Brazil nuts in you diet. but diet alone is not the solution here.


Practice Yoga and Meditation: regularly practicing yoga shows the significant effect to reduce the anxiety. studies shows that medication improves concentration. 


Limit caffeine: Caffeine does have its cognitive perks like boosting alertness, energy and feelings of well-being but overuse can cause a range of unpleasant side effects, including troubled sleep, jitters, irritability and gastric distress.


Avoid alcohol: Alcohol changes levels of serotonin and other neurotransmitters in the brain, which can worsen anxiety. In fact, you may feel more anxious after having the alcohol. if  you already alcohol addicted or occasional consume alcohol, in either of cases you must avoid them.


NOTE : Generalised Anxiety Disorder can be treated if they detected early.  If you have have severe symptoms,  consult to a mental health expert.
